merry and happy

Whatever you are celebrating these days; Christmas, Hanukkah or simply holidays, make it about life, about love and about joy. Make it about how you're getting along with others. And even with getting in danger to sound super cheesy, make it about peace. We all need so much more of this.

This has been pretty rough year, in many parts of this old world, on many different levels and it is time to lean back and breathe. Actually that is exactly what I am planning to do. Nothing. But read, sleep and eat.

Lots of love to all of you!

not today

There was supposed to be a giveaway post today, but it simply didn't feel right. I simply can't.

Berlin has my heart and all the ones being affected by last night's event. In fact, today my thoughts are with everyone who is affected by hate, war and loss. To love, peace and understanding.

P.S. The husband is safe, he didn't work at the market yesterday.

frozen and not

The last weeks have been crazy. Again. I can't recall, how often I have opened up with these sentences lately. And, that the images above shouldn't trick you. There is beauty everwhere, but also so much turmoil going on underneath. It seems to be the scheme of the year 2016. Personally, as well as for the world.

Right now, I simply am not capable to talk about the bigger picture though. Apart from the fact, that my heart aches often these days. But the gap between my thoughts and the words I would like to form, is still too big and too deep; it feels wise to wait and listen a little longer.

As for the lack of philosophical or political enlightenment, I have a little more to say, about our personal lifes. We had our first studio dinner out here and it was magical. We sat together until early morning, with delicious food and good wine, and everything was light and easy.

We had an armed robbery at the Bead & Breakfast across the street. And half of the village running after the men. Luckily, no one catched them, because it might have been truly dangerous. But the thought of people standing up for each other and being that supportive, stunned me.

I had the chance to be part of a whole bunch of authors with disabilities, taking over the German newspaper taz and was also asked to write an article about inklusion in the city versus the countryside. I believe it was a great campaign, that might have raised awareness on a whole new level. Mostly because it was a really good issue. And as the paper had been sold out in many places, maybe the topic has actually reached readers, who have not been in touch with the topic before.

The house, we are just settling in, feels a bit like a beehive right now. Around us, people are constantly moving in and out, goodbyes and new faces. One neighbor even got arrested, but that is not my story to tell, as nobody knows a lot yet. He simply is gone. It just fits like a glove within the scheme, I was talking about above. Stories after stories.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy where I am, just don't have the slighest clue what this all might mean. Therefor, it is still taking every wave as it comes and the rest is waiting. Until it makes sense or until the weather will change once again.

Before putting on my coat and forcing myself out in the night with Emma, on Tuesday there will be a little giveaway anouncement over here. As Christmas is just around the corner, I feel like giving back some good. So stay tuned.

AC sanctuary

The blurry silence of a cold night; only the light of candles and the warmth of an open fire. A pot with steaming pasta in front of me and a glass of red. Nobody moves, but Emma drinking water. And to add another dose of clicheé, Cohen's words a dripping out of the speakers. His music will always stay with me. And it will always root me. Somehow.

This is has been an overwhelming week, with so much good, with some bad and with a drive home from hell. But that is another story. All is fine now and I am exactly where I need to be. Right here in my countryside sanctuary.

To have a look into more thoughts and probably more images on SANCTUARY, visit the gorgeous Veronica, who had send out the friendly invitation for this art challenge. Thank you!

AC winter salon

It is freezing out there and after a long walk with Emma through the fields today, I have to say, everything looks stunningly beautiful. It still sits with me, glowing. And then again, it feels like winter is coming on many levels these days. Not only the bright and refreshingly crisp part of it. It feels like it is getting cold. Last week has been filled up with worrying events and political developments. Stuff, that most of us probably didn't expect. At all. Well, I didn't and I still feel a bit like I've got hit by a bus, wondering where we are heading and how to react to an atmosphere that is a so smoky from all the screaming and shouting and an uncomfortable dose of hate.

I have a deep longing for bringing people together; to get closer and talk, to drink, discuss and even argue, as long as we will meet at the same table and hug each other, when departing. A WINTER SALON is exactly what I need right now and after the topic for this week's AC was out, the husband and I decided, to go back to our studio dinners immediately. This is what we know and what we do well. Coming together in all our differences, with respect, with love and the warmths of good food.

Everybody has this special talent, something little or huge, that can change at least the moment. No time for hiding under a duvet cover, but a time to celebrate the good stuff in life.

Therefor, I wish you a good and exciting week ahead. Risk something.

AC school

Finally, here is my very belated contribution to last weekend's AC SCHOOL. When thinking about the topic, I usually had something completely different in mind. As it happens so often. Then my computer caught some technical hickups throughout Saturday and I simply had to let it go.

To make up for the disapointement, the husband and I decided to call it quits, invite some friends over and make it a cosy movie night. And there it was, one of my all time favourite movies.
And the funny school story I had planned to tell, was not important any more. What was more important, how much this movie touched me. Again. The idea of personal strenght, the power of nature and of intuition. The most I have learned in my life so far, was learning by simply living that life. And that deep understanding of human kind, I was taught through traveling.

If you like to know, what all the others had to say and even more, to show for the AC, jump over to the lovely Ariane and enjoy!

November 01, 2016

queen of colors

The colors have dramatically changed out here. I should probably say, beautifully. With all the shades of brown and yellow, and the moody atmosphere, these are definitely some of my favourite weeks of the year. I am an autumn girl. And actually, it doesn't matter, where I am. Be it big city lights or the much calmer pace in the countryside; am breathing a little deeper and feel a little more inspired than usual.

How about you?

A tiny village in Brandenburg

Six months ago (really, that much time has passed already?!) the husband and I decided, that we'd need a drastic change to our then lifestyle. The old shop in the middle of a buzzing area of Berlin, we had been living in for eight years, simply didn't do the trick anymore. The area had changed a lot over the time and became incredibly busy. What was exciting in the beginning, became a growing obstacle. More with every year. Though we've loved to hold events there and made it easy to be approached by our friends, coming over for a coffee and a chat; working behind huge windows, didn't only bring inspiration, but also strangers knocking and asking questions constantly. People, who wanted to use the bathroom or the Wifi, some even asking if they could turn our place into a café. Some days we ended with up to thirty visitors, making work or even a private life almost imposible. We knew we had to call it quits and slowly started looking for another place. At that time, there wasn't really the plan, to not only leave the old appartment, but the city completely, when I discovered a little advertisment, offering a beautiful flat on an equally beautiful estate. To be honest, the things that made my heart jump, were an enourmous open kitchen and a fire place. The husband wasn't that taken by the idea. But, on a grey and snowy Sunday morning, he agreed to do a little roadtrip to Brandenburg. Not without, us both constanly complaining, that we never could imagine ourself living that far from the city. Well, what can I say, after only five minutes on the estate and especially in the appartment, that was it and we've started packing our stuff to leave Berlin.

On living in a village: We both haved lived in many different places so far and I even grew up in a village, but it was that kind of place, very close to a huge city, that has more of an suburban feeling to it, than real countryliving. The village we are based in now, is very different from my childhood home. It has only one hundred and forty residents and you will possibly wake up to the crowing of a rooster or the engine of a tractor. Walking Emma is like a quick holiday trip; only two hundred meters and you are in the middle of the most beautiful landscape, you can imgine. Open fields, amazing woods and an ever blowing wind, which is actually my favourite. By night it is pitch dark out here and you will see a million stars in the sky. The environment simply overtakes you. Most of our neighbors have a day job and are farmers afterwards. Business is done differently; you will probably meet up for a casual drink, talk a little about the weather and get things done, somewhere in between. The life stories though, aren't different to the ones, you will hear in the city. Love, success, failure and pain. People are simply people, I guess.

On working in a small village: As we are both freelancers, the basic structure for our routine hasn't changed too much. It mainly includes, me working in the studio and for the husband as a chef, driving to his clients to do his kitchen magic at their places. Even though the distances are longer, our days have definitely become more relaxed and, after some months of adjusting, much more effective. Especially I, cherish the fact, that there is far less stuff to distract me. And when driving home, after hours of meetings and running errands in the city, my heart so jumps, once I have left the highway. There is simply nothing better, but having a drink on the steps of your front door, listening to your favourite music and watching the clouds passing. Nothing better, on how to end your day.

Our first six months in this little village, have been both, an adventure and coming home, at the same time. There are days, when the intimacy between us and our environment, still makes me a bit nervous and when craving a good dose of Sushi or a midnight Burger are a bit painful. But then again, I enjoy these things simply, when we are in the city. Living out here, is exactly what we both need right now. And we are loving every moment of it.

P.S. Stay tuned, by Monday the FOODTHOUGHTS calendar 2017 will launch!

October 10, 2016

queen of colors

Summer has been beautiful out here. Fall looks even better. The light, the colors, I am falling deeper and deeper in love with the looks of our little village. Even the grey and rainy weekend was pleasant. There is a fire burning and I am busy drawing the last pages for the fresh FOODTHOUGHTS calendar.

After the first months in the countryside have passed, I can sure you, a lot is exactly like I had hoped for, other stuff still needs a little adjusting, while the rest is very different from my personal preconceptions. Holy Canneloni, if you want wild, believe me, even so little resisdents can create quite an amount of it. But this is another story, which I will be sharing here soon.

For now it is back to drawing.

P.S. If you like to save your issue of the sparkling fresh calendar (28,- € plus shipping), you can now pre-order it under mail@anntonbeateschmidt.com

More, where to get it, by the end of this week. Stay tuned!

AC tide

Life is not always easy, actually it sometimes comes around pretty tough. It can almost feel, like the waves are crushing above your head and you're somehow destined to drown. The TIDES are mean and wild, and you might find yourself, so desperately looking for ways out of those rocky moments.

Something that I have learned over the years, not that I'll remember it all the time, very often it is the tiny stuff, the small solutions, like a handfolded paperboat, guiding you through those TIDES and making the next day a totally different one.

To see what the rest of the AC crowd came up with, reffering to TIDES, jump over to the wonderful Ariane and have a look. Thank you for inviting me, dear
